Summer 2018

The sun is shining, the sandhill cranes are on their way, and the kids and adults are getting restless -summer vacation is almost here! There are many activities available in Homer for kids to participate in over the summer; baseball, soccer, swim lessons, hiking, bicycling, the list goes on and on. Parks and Recreation has a helpful website that lists many summer activities at And don’t forget to check out the SPARC website at

Research has proven what has already been suspected: kids need fresh air and movement to be healthy and smart AND too much screen time dulls the brain.

The CDC has come out with some scary statistics regarding childhood injuries and what we know is that many fatal injuries to children are preventable. Encourage your family to use helmets, personal flotation devices, seatbelts, follow the rules of the road and avoid distracted driving.

I hope you and your family get a chance to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors. Go for a hike, play catch, ride bikes, jump through the sprinkler. Fun and adventure is right outside your front door.

Wishing you a wonderful and safe summer.
